BLACKTROL^® 350 gilsonite is a naturally occurring asphalt used for high temperature, high pressure (HPHT) filtration for all oil-based mud and synthetic-based mud. BLACKTROL^® 350 is designed to be used in applications with BHT above 350°F. It can extrude into formation microfractures to form a sealing/plugging mechanism to stabilize shale and prevent sloughing. BLACKTROL^® 350 also increases viscosity, especially at lower temperatures due to its partial solubility. When it is used in the field, monitor solids control equipment for several circulations after initial addition to ensure the product is not being discarded.
