Hydroxyethyl Cellulose (HEC) is a nonionic water-soluble polymer that can dissolve rapidly into water to form a transparent or semi-transparent viscous liquid. As a viscosifier, it is often used in mixing solids- free or low-solid completion fluids, specifically for reservoir sections, to prevent clay particles from blocking reservoir pores and to protect the reservoir. HEC is insensitive to electrolytes and will not produce sediment residues in high-salinity environments, making it an excellent reservoir protection agent product.

Applications/Functions

• Can dissolve rapidly into water to form a transparent or semi-transparent viscous liquid.
• A specialized viscosifier for solid-free brine completion fluids.
• Applicable to high-concentration NaCl, KCl, CaCl₂ and CaBr₂ brines.
• A multifunctional product for completion fluids: increasing viscosity and reducing fluid loss.
