COPOTROL® sodium polyacrylate copolymer is a medium-molecular-weight, anionic, white powder additive used primarily for controlling filtration loss in low-salinity water base mud systems. The temperature stability of COPOTROL® is in excess of 400°F, and is not susceptible to bacterial degradation, which makes it particularly suitable for fluid-loss control in deep, hot holes. COPOTROL® is sensitive to calcium and magnesium, therefore the total hardness of the system should be reduced and maintained below 300ppm. COPOTROL® is widely used in fresh, sea water and monovalent brines, including low-solids, non-dispersed and dispersed weighted systems.
