Product Description

MICROWATE^® 4.6 weighting material is ilmenite powder produced through a special grinding process, used to increase the density of drilling fluids. Compared with barite, its main features include specific gravity of approximately 4.6, average particle size D50 of only 5 microns, and its sphericity and roundness are close to perfect, with weak magnetism. These characteristics enable the drilling fluid formulated with MICROWATE^® 4.6 to maintain relatively low rheology and lower equivalent circulating density, reducing the risk of sedimentation, which is more conducive to the drilling of extended reach wells or ultra-long horizontal wells, and also beneficial for reservoir protection.

Used in restricted ECD applications including depleted wells, deep water, narrow margin, high temperature wells
Sag control issues

Much less damaging to formations due to its particle size, roundness and acid solubility with high return permeability ratio
Much slower settling velocity than Barite in water
