Citric Acid is a commercial chemical used to reduce pH, precipitate soluble calcium and sequester iron in drilling muds. It is mainly used to remove calcium when drilling cement, reduce the potential of crosslinking polymers and to prevent fish-eyes when mixing polymers. Citric Acid is safer to handle compared with sulfuric or hydrochloric acid.
